Eco-efficiency: an exclusive technology born of responsible design
An UPS that supplies “clean” alternating current, with a perfectly sinusoidal exit wave, and that is both energy efficient and ecologically compatible can only be the result of a design process that is responsible from the outset.
|
|
| iDowell has developed the “Eco-efficiency” technology taking the problems of efficiency and pollution very seriously: both by relying on tested techniques, usually reserved for highly professional products, as well as finding and implementing extremely original and innovative solutions. |
Why oversize?
The first rule for saving is to not waste (therefore not oversize)
The intervention time in case of an interruption in current needs to be adequate for the characteristics of the power supply unit: those used for Mac are built so as to easily withstand interruptions in voltage of up to 10ms. Therefore, it is unnecessary to have a super-fast UPS, such as the double conversion types that have a very low efficiency, with a consumption level over ten times that of an Eco-efficiency iDowell line-interactive UPS.
On the other hand, a line-interactive UPS with pseudo-sinewave, while intervening rapidly, may not guarantee compatibility with Mac without being suitably oversized.
The pseudo-sinewave, due to its form, adds an intrinsic delay to the conversion that can lead to instability in the voltage and a consequent intervention of the groups’ over-voltage protection.
When such protection is engaged, the UPS’s intervention time is considerably prolonged, causing the connected Mac to switch off. With this technology the only solution is to use a UPS with a higher power, that is more bulky, more expensive, noisier and that undoubtedly uses more energy…
Or, you can us an iDowell UPS with perfectly sinusoidal wave: the performance of a common 700VA UPS can be compared to that of a 550VA iDowell iBox UPS!

“Intelligent” battery charging
The UPS always needs to be ready to intervene, whenever necessary. However, batteries tend to lose their charge with time: a banal and economic solution to this is to always keep them under charge; naturally, this means consumption is constant and battery elements soon wear out.
Most small UPSs work in exactly this way, pointlessly consuming batteries as well. |

|
|
| In all iDowell UPS the “active” battery charger constantly controls the state of the charger, only intervening when necessary; the long life or very long life (up to 10 years) batteries employed prolong the product’s life even further, considerably protecting the environment! |
 |
A light is always on
A good UPS never abandons its computer: it is always at work, scrupulously keeping its energy supply under control.
Like any other activity, this also uses energy, which should ideally be kept to a minimum.
Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) allows maintaining the outgoing voltage always within the range permitted by Apple power supply units, without the need to constantly use batteries as in double conversion systems. |
|
Furthermore, the multi-tap filter that protects from sudden over-voltage peaks and disturbances in the power supply, considerably superior to those you find in the most economic line-interactive UPS, offers a higher level of protection and is completely digitally controlled (DSP – Digital Signal Processor).
This drastically reduces consumption: it is like replacing a high-energy bulb with a low energy one. |
Improve your computer’s performance
The focus on quality throughout the energy control process doesn’t only yield advantages to the UPS’s consumption: your computer will also use less energy!
In order to take in the crude and extremely harsh energy generated by offline or line-interactive groups with pseudo-sinusoidal curve, the power supply unit is forced to work overtime, which increases its consumption and wear. |
 |
|
| This also affects operational temperature, and further consumption can result from the cooling fans that usually function at very reduced levels in a Mac. |
|
From production, to distribution and disposal: an environmentally friendly process from beginning to end
Eco-efficiency is not just a technology: it is an environmental programme, a series of measures that target the entire life cycle of our product.
A well designed UPS can rely on the best technologies and materials, while keeping the use of raw materials to a minimum; the design also determines the production process’ s energy costs and the recycling possibilities it offers.
|
|
| iDowell, even though UPS are exempt, immediately took on board the European directives concerning the limitations to the use of hazardous substances (RoHS) and the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). |
 |
Apart from the battery pack, which meets the strictest specific norms, dangerous and toxic materials - heavy materials and combustion-retardant materials (bromides) - have been eliminated.
The packaging, in recycled cardboard, has reduced to a minimum or completely eliminated foams or polyvinyl chloride and we do not employ inks containing cadmium, chrome, mercury, nickel or lead. |
The same level of energy efficiency of our UPS is also maintained throughout the distribution and commercialization phase.
The limited dimensions of our product and its packaging increase the number of units per pallet during the transport phase; by producing at the heart of Europe, a short distance from most of our clients, the journey iDowell UPS have to make is a short one, further reducing the carbon footprint of our production process.
Care for the environment also means paying attention to the end of our product’s life cycle and making its disposal as easy as possible: whenever it can, iDowell will directly take on responsibility for collecting and treating used batteries, and actively participates in government environmental campaigns in favour of recycling.
Such an approach has allowed us to immediately meet the high standards set by the strict interpretation of the RAEE directive in Germany (the “ElectroG” law) that was the first to specifically discipline the disposal of UPS.
Finally, the technical support and maintenance service iDowell offers its clients to guarantee a maximum and constant efficiency of the UPS is not only economically convenient, but also ensures it has the longest possible life cycle at the highest possible operational standards, as well as disposing of the UPS in the most ecological way.

iDowell UPS: good for Macs, for the environment and for consumption
iDowell UPS have been optimized for the needs of Apple computers, so as to not require “oversizing”.
This, together with the highest level of ecological control of the product’s life cycle, drastically reduces our carbon footprint. Furthermore, the Eco-efficiency technology, an exclusive mix of sophisticated and innovative solutions for constant and optimal energy management, allows our UPS to consume up to 75% less than others on the market.
By buying inadequate products, what you save in the price you will pay in bills.
On the other hand, you will write off the cost of an iDowell UPD in 5 years: a good investment for you, and for the environment! |
